Closing the Gap: Support Built Around People

At Clover Care, we believe quality disability support starts with understanding people — both the people receiving support and the people providing it.

Every participant has different goals, preferences, routines and circumstances. Our focus is on closing the gap between the supports that are available and what people actually need in their everyday lives.

A big part of that is listening. We encourage participants and their families to tell us what is working, what could be better and when their needs change. Our Clover Care Voice Meetings give participants another opportunity to share their experiences, provide feedback and have a genuine say in the services and activities we provide. For us, feedback should not simply be collected — it should lead to action.

We also know that great support depends on a skilled and supported team. We hold regular whole-company team meetings to keep everyone connected, share updates and give staff opportunities to contribute ideas and raise concerns. We invest in regular skills training and competency validations, together with annual performance reviews, to help our team continue learning, developing and providing quality support.

Closing the gap also means looking beyond traditional supports. Our weekly group activities for neurodivergent young adults grew from recognising that there were limited opportunities in Canberra for young people to regularly meet, make friends and enjoy activities in a comfortable and welcoming environment. From board games and gaming to BBQs and movie nights, the groups are about having fun, sharing interests and building genuine connections.

For some young adults, these groups also provide a pathway towards employment. Through our supported employment program, some are employed to help organise, host and run the activities themselves. This gives them real workplace experience, practical skills and confidence, while supporting them to work towards their longer-term employment goals and the type of work they would like to pursue.

Community is another important part of who we are. Through Christmas and Easter celebrations, Christmas in July and other annual gatherings, Clover Care brings participants, families and staff together to build relationships, make new connections and create a genuine sense of belonging.

We want every participant, family and staff member to know that we’re in their corner. Whether they need support, want to raise a concern, share an idea or simply talk something through, our team is only a phone call away. For us, building trust and being there when people need us is an important part of what Clover Care is about.

As Clover Care continues to grow, our focus remains simple: listen, respond and keep improving — while making sure the people around us feel heard, valued and supported.

Because better support starts with better connections.
